FMI staff have defended 8 DSc dissertations (Pavel Todorov, Todor Zhelyazkov, Iliya Iliev, Hristo Semerdzhiev, Nako Nachev, Doychin Tolev, Georgi Totkov, Snezhana Hristova) and over 60 PhD dissertations; they have published articles in local and international reputable journals, as well as monographs. Evidence of the wide popularity among the mathematics community of a number of the academic staff can be found in: a host of citations of their findings by local and international experts in their professional areas, their involvement as reviewers in international reviewed journals, their membership in international mathematical societies and academies, International Man of the Year nominations by the International Biographic Centre at Cambridge for outstanding scientific achievements, a multitude of papers presented at recognized international congresses and conferences both at home and abroad (some organized or co-organized by FMI). Evidence of recognition for the scientific achievements by FMIIT teaching staff is that representatives thereof are on the specialized Scientific Councils in Mathematics and Mechanics at the Higher Attestation Commission and at the Scientific Committee of Mathematical Sciences at the Higher Attestation Commission, as well as the fact that the FMI Faculty Board has been conferred the statute of Scientific Council authorized to elect Associate Professors in Mathematics and Informatics. A large number of the academic staff have been, and some still are, guest lecturers at various universities worldwide.

     The major fields of concentration at FMI are as follows: group rings and crossed products, partially ordered algebraic systems and related algorithmic problems thereof, algebras with identities, nets and fibers on manifolds, geometries on algebras, differentiable manifolds with additional structures, invariant linear dependences, fundamental and qualitative theory of differential equations, analytical number theory, Diophantine approximations, approximations of periodic functions with trigonometric polynomials and extremum problems, location of zeros of classes of entire functions, local theory of ordinary differential equations, structures of homogeneous spaces, numerical methods for solving equations, theory of equations with impulses, difference schemes, applied statistics, modeling of physical, chemical, and biological processes and systems, mathematical optimization, game theory, analytical mechanics, information technologies of natural languages, concept modeling of various subject fields, IT in education and training, electronic publishing, mathematics and informatics education, etc.
